Royal Brunei Airlines (<\/span>RB<\/span>) has commenced the\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202f<\/span>Harapan<\/span>\u202finitiative to support the development and learning of the schoolchildren of Brunei, with enriching educational experiences at\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202fCampus and Hangar. \u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With this initiative,\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202fis targeting to welcome 50 schools over the year with a platform to supplement and broaden the education for students in Brunei through technical visits and sharing sessions at\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202ffacilities. The students will be able to learn from and ask questions to engineers, cabin crew, pilots and administrative and managerial staff on the functions and duties that they perform.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is hoped that information gained by the students\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>as the next generation of the country\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>talent<\/span>\u00a0and drivers of economic growth –\u00a0<\/span>will nurture their\u202finterest in the various career opportunities available, and therefore,\u202ffurther ignite their passion in learning\u00a0<\/span>when in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>pursuit of\u00a0<\/span>future career aspirations.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the school visits, RB\u00a0<\/span>female staff will deliver talks as an empowering figure in their line of work and to attract female students in Science, Technology,\u00a0<\/span>Engineering<\/span>\u00a0and Mathematics (STEM) subjects for their higher education.\u00a0<\/span>This is in line with the steps RB is taking to achieve more gender diversity in the workplace following the airlines\u2019 commitment\u00a0<\/span>to the International Air Transport Association, (IATA) 25by2025, a voluntary\u00a0<\/span>campaign for IATA member airlines<\/span>\u00a0to strengthen female representation in the aviation industry by 25%, or up to a minimum of 25% by 2025.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RB<\/span>\u202falso wishes for this initiative to contribute in achieving\u202f<\/span>Wawasan<\/span><\/i>\u202fBrunei\u202f<\/span><\/i>2035<\/span><\/i><\/a>\u202f(Brunei Vision\u202f<\/span>2035)<\/span><\/a>,\u202fparticularly in\u202f<\/span>realising<\/span>\u202fthe first\u202fgoal of an educated,\u202fhighly-sk<\/span>illed and accomplished\u202fpeople.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RB<\/span>\u202fChief Executive Officer Captain Haji\u00a0<\/span>Khalidkhan<\/span>\u00a0bin Haji\u00a0<\/span>Asmakhan<\/span>\u00a0said, \u201cThis initiative provides us with the unique opportunity to engage the young minds of Brunei and\u202f<\/span>InsyaAllah<\/span><\/i>, inspire them\u202fto\u202fone day\u00a0<\/span>realise<\/span>\u00a0their dreams of working in their desired careers\u201d.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He added,\u202f\u201cHopefully, that will drive them to work hard in their studies, become passionate about what they are learning and\u202fignite a healthy desire to\u202fcontribute to our country\u2019s future\u201d.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During these visits, students from tertiary, vocational, secondary and primary schools will have the opportunity to visit\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u2019s modern administrative and technical facilities including its B787 Dreamliner and\u202fA320 mock-up airplane, grooming room for cabin crew, training areas, engineering workshops, Collaboration Hub and Heritage Gallery. \u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The sharing sessions,\u00a0<\/span>conducted<\/span>\u00a0by the\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202fTeam from a variety of job functions, will help the students understand the industry, expectations of the job market, skills and competencies\u00a0<\/span>required and how this relates\u202fto their future career selection. The objective is to allow the students to reach out directly to a working professional with any questions they may have. \u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since introducing\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202f<\/span>Harapan<\/span>\u202fat the start of this year, the national carrier has received more than 250 students and 27 teachers from 6 educational institutions in January and February. \u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To commemorate each visit, the students were invited to take part in\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u2019s\u202fwall mural art project, which started in December last year. The wall mural is housed at\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u202fCampus and\u202faims to be a fixture that the\u202fstudents can take pride in contributing to their national airline.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

RB<\/span>\u202f<\/span>Harapan<\/span>\u202fand the wall mural are part of\u202f<\/span>RB<\/span>\u2019s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to engage with the public at large, encourage learning and creativity as well as nurture an interest in the industry\u202fthrough career talks and other enriching activities.\u202f\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
